A PROJECT BY CTRL_ALT_DEFEATParticipant Pulse
Questions. Shared ideas. Work in progress.
A datathon, through its discussions.
Eight challenges.
Different conversations.
Choose a challenge to explore its recorded messages. Equal-size artwork; unequal, partial samples.
Beyond
the leaderboard.
We are CTRL_ALT_DEFEAT. Participant Pulse makes observed challenge discussions easier to understand. We follow the questions, shared approaches, and explicit participation posts—then connect every finding to its source. Each message adds context. The sample never becomes the whole event.
Evidence
in focus.
Three ways into the selected discussion sample. Open any story to inspect its underlying records.
Go deeper.
Filter all recorded messages, inspect coverage, and follow the evidence.
The bundled Excel covers the packaged 140 observations. Use JSON or CSV exports for records imported in this browser.
Explore the
source channels.
Each point opens a partial slice of the conversation. Equal sizes keep the focus on evidence, not a popularity ranking.

What the sample actually says
Coverage is part of the story.
A partial discussion sample is not a complete record of the event.
Start with a better question
What people are posting about
One category per observed message. These are content labels, not measured feelings or difficulty ratings.
From a signal to a useful action
A cautious interpretation, grounded in the available messages.
Eight different ways to play
Behind every number,
an observed message.
Anonymous display-label aliases and concise paraphrases preserve the analytical signal. Source links let authorized server members review context.
Browse the displayed times
Sampled messages grouped by their displayed hour. These counts are not activity rates or a complete time series.
| Displayed time | Challenge | Alias | Category | Observed content · paraphrase | Evidence |
|---|
Display times are reproduced as shown in Discord; the interface timezone was not verified. Aliases identify visible display labels within a channel’s observations, not verified people or teams. They are not matched across channels. Coding has not received independent human validation.
Download the dataset
JSON and CSV exports contain all loaded records, including records merged on this device. Filters only change the view.
The Excel file contains the packaged 140 observations. Browser imports are included in JSON and CSV exports, not in this bundled workbook.
Merge another coded sample
Import a message JSON export with the same fields. Message IDs prevent double counting. Imported records remain in this browser; export to keep or share them.
Newly imported samples remain partial. Importing more messages does not establish full-channel coverage or a complete time interval.
Every signal needs
a little context.
A useful observation dashboard makes the gaps as visible as the findings. Unread channels are missing data, not quiet channels.
Discord message content
Assistant reading of an authorized Discord interface. Partial, nonrandom snapshots with message IDs and source links.
Official challenge catalog
Public descriptions, prize listings and guides explain the choices. They are not participant observations.
Competition & outcomes
No verified team counts, valid-submission counts, team ability or judging outcomes. Personal winning probability is not estimable here.
Coverage comes first
How to read these measures
- Observed messages
- Distinct message IDs in the loaded sample. This is not a search result total or a full channel count.
- Display labels
- Anonymous aliases for visible display labels, within a sample. They are not verified unique accounts, people or teams.
- Content shares
- Messages in a category divided by all coded messages in the selected sample. Each message has one category.
- Missing values
- Unread channels, unverified timezones and unknown counts remain null. They do not become zero.
- Staff and bots
- Roles are shown only when explicit evidence is recorded. No complete author-role roster has been verified, and the samples do not claim to exclude all staff or bots.
- Time and comparisons
- Messages per hour and cross-challenge rankings are withheld because coverage is incomplete and not comparable.
What the package contains
- Observed discussion
- 140 unique messages across 8 challenge channels, with exact source IDs, scoped aliases and paraphrases.
- Snapshot traceability
- 11 observation snapshots and 150 snapshot–message memberships. Ten repeated sightings are counted once in the 140-message dataset.
- A reproducible finding
- 41 of 140 messages (29.3%) concern help, rules or logistics. This includes questions and explanations, not a count of unresolved issues.
- Separate context and simulation
- Eight official challenge records provide context. The Simulation panel contains 9 fictional teams and 21 fictional allocations, separate from observed totals.
The package includes original source files, the Excel workbook, field definitions and collection documentation.
Explore a fictional
competition landscape.
A clearly labeled nine-team scenario shows how a richer dataset could power this dashboard. These values do not describe real participants or establish actual competition.
Where fictional teams focus
Fictional team interest by challenge
Considering, active and submitting statuses count as scenario interest. One team may appear in several challenges.
Assumed difficulty & prize influence
Means of synthetic 1–5 ratings, with the number of fictional team records shown.
The fictional team matrix
| Fictional team | Challenge | Assumed status | Allocated members | Assumed hours | Difficulty input | Prize input | Source |
|---|
Every exported record retains source_type: synthetic, is_observed: false and scenario_only: true. Fictional teams have four members each; allocations across active/submitting challenges do not exceed four per team.
What if the field
were smaller?
Explore how entrant count changes a simple equal-chance baseline. This does not estimate your team’s actual chance of winning.
Where can your next hour
make a difference?
Can you finish a valid submission?
Check eligibility, required assets and the actual deadline first.
What is your most fixable weakness?
Use your own progress and the judging rubric to choose the next task.
What questions keep coming up?
Observed requests can suggest useful resources or clarifications. They cannot reveal silent teams or their progress.
